Nocturnal Minds is a game development group based in the NYC area. We moonlight as game developers in the city that never sleeps.
The primary mission of the group is to create the opportunity for motivated, aspiring game developers to cross the “experience gap”, by offering the opportunity to work on a project substantial enough to attract the interest of game industry employers. We have found that the talent level in the NYC area is tremendous, but local companies often can’t allocate the resources to even take on interns.
As the group has expanded, its mission has grown to accommodate those that wish to self-organize to work on their own independent game projects, while utilizing the group as a powerful resource. The group plans to always have a single large-scale project in progress, for release on a legitimate distribution platform. The group and it’s members have worked with a wide range of technologies, including XNA/C#, C++/Lua/SFML, Flash/AS3/Flixel, Game Maker (GML), Unity, Maya, Logic Audio, Subversion, etc.
The group has weekly meetings at our “studio location” in Ozone Park, Queens, NY, a short walk from the 88th St stop off the blue A subway line. There is substantial parking space available, so driving in from Long Island is reasonable. We also meet online for a weekly IRC chat session to discuss projects in progress.
If you are an aspiring game developer in the NYC area and would like to get involved with a substantial project, or a bedroom developer looking to be inspired by like-minded individuals, we would very much like to meet you to discuss how we could work together. Students, graduates, programmers, artists, musicians, all are welcome to join. Our primary social event takes place at Barcade in Brooklyn during the monthly NYCgameindustry.com Meet N’ Drink event. Many of our members are also present at other NYC area events, especially those involving the IGDA and NYU.
Our group is closely affiliated with the NYCgameindustry.com website, so you can also join us on the forums there:
